In order to celebrate Israel's birthday we wanted to present an interactive learning family program on Israel. We set up "tents" around the shul, each representing a different ethnic/religious group within Israel. Each "tent" had a leader dressed in the part who entertained his/her visitors with stories about how his or her particular group came or contributed to Israel and also served a unique food. The groups are Sabra, Yemenite, Bedouin, Russian, Eastern European and Ethiopian. The program was successful because the students learned about the diversity of Israel through experiential learning, had fun by visiting the various tents, had hands on activities at each station and got to eat a unique food. The event was very well received by parents and students.
RESORUCES: detailed program guide, including set up instructions, a timeline and descriptions of individual tent activities; Hatikvah sing-along guide; Israel fact sheet; "passport" to visit all tents; flag activity instructions; balloon faces instructions and salt scrub recipe;
