During a wonderful, spiritually uplifting weekend in November 2008, our congregation celebrated with our new Senior Rabbi, Heidi Cohen at Simchat Rav. Because Rabbi Cohen had served our congregation for ten years as our Assistant and Associate Rabbi, we did not wish to have a typical installation ceremony as she became our Senior Rabbi. Instead we designed a joyous celebratory weekend with Rabbi Cohen's mentors, including her childhood rabbi from Denver, Colorado, Rabbi Emeritus Raymond Zwerin and our own Rabbi Emeritus Shelton J. Donnell from Jerusalem.
The celebration began on Friday evening with a Multigenerational Shabbat Service and Dinner with many Temple Beth Sholom families present. Presentations were made primarily by the youth of our synagogue with accompaniment by our Youth Choir. On Saturday morning, at a Torah Study brunch entitled "Four Rabbis and a Nosh" we were treated to "A Conversation with Lot, Abraham, Sarah and God" discussing the week's Torah portion, "Lech L'cha." Saturday evening was a time to rejoice as we "Sealed the Covenant with Rabbi Heidi Cohen," complete with Chuppah and an originally written covenant in which our many past presidents, staff and congregants participated. Our cantorial soloist sang "Colorado Rocky Mountain Heidi!" Music, dancing and chocolate brought the evening to a wonderful, very meaningful conclusion.
